THE X FIGHTS
Roy Babcock made his return to Missouri at the X Fights at the Municipal Auditorium on June 12.
The event was packed with good matchups and exciting fights.
Babcock faced off against Nick Nolte, who was the obvious fan favorite. Both men started off wanting to stand and trade.
Nolte clinched up and took Babcock down, and then unloaded with some huge ground and pound that seemed to stun Babcock for a moment.
Roy was able to recover and use some great jiu jitsu to sweep Nolte and eventually gain the mount position.
Nolte proved to be tough and was able to shake Babcock and get back to half guard.
Babcock was able to pass to side control and lock up a tight key-lock, that forced Nolte to tap with just seconds left in the round. Roy "The Enigma" Babcock is now 3-0 as a pro and looking to move to the next level. We would like to thank Dr. Hughes for all of his help. Congratulations Roy!
108 MMA IN KANSAS CITY
At the 108 MMA show on May 30, Cody Munsterman and Stephen Sweet both added wins to their records. Cody was able to win his fight by TKO at the end of the first round. The fight was one of the more exciting fights of the night with both fighters exchanging heavily. Cody was able to get the upper hand and score the TKO victory late in round 1. Stephen then followed up Cody's stand-up performance with a solid display of jiu-jitsu. Stephen and his opponent were evenly matched on their feet, but Stephen had the upper hand when the fight went to the mat. Stephen was able to secure a triangle choke in Round 1 but was unable to finish before the bell. In Round 2 the fight went to the mat again where Stephen was able to get another triangle late in the round. This time Stephen was able to get the tap with 2 seconds left in the round. Good Job Guys!
On April 25, 2009 Breaking Point Productions presented Zero Tolerance X. The event was held at the St. Joseph
Civic Arena and featured eight Lone Wolf fighters. Andrew Gillies made his debut to open the evening. Andrew fought hard for three rounds but got caught in a tight guillotine and was forced to tapout.
Andrew is a tough kid and will definitely be back in the cage sooner than later. Lone Wolf got its first win of the night when Blake "Shake N' Bake" Whorton used some beautiful jiu jitsu to defeat the previously undefeated
David Lambert by triangle choke late in round 2. Cody Holt was next to in the cage and was able to finish his fight in the same manner as Whorton, triangle in round 2. Stephen Sweet wasted no time picking up his second consecutive win. He was able to take
down his opponent early and locking up a beautiful key lock which forced his opponent to tap out before the end of the first round. John Ford improved his record to 4-1 with a submission victory over Matthew Bernal. The two fighters traded punches early until Ford forced a takedown.
John was able to take Bernal's back and finish the fight with a rear naked choke at the end of the first round. Two of Lone Wolf's newest fighters both got their first MMA victory in impressive fashion. Cody Munsterman was able to get a takedown early in his fight, but his opponent was able to sweep
Cody and put him on his back. Cody stayed calm and was able to regain position and lock in a beautiful darce for the submission victory. Steve Mooney was able to come out on top in his debut. Steve landed a perfectly executed uppercut to KO his opponent at the end of the first round. In the main event Matt Gragg
faced Zero Tolerance Heavyweight champion Gary Tapusoa for the Middleweight championship. Matt looked to be winning the fight when a right hand from Tapusoa connected flush and led to the end of the fight. Even though everybody wasn't victorious, the night as a whole was a success. All of the Lone Wolf fighters
looked good and held up the reputation as one of the best MMA schools in the Midwest. Lone Wolf MMA would also like to thank Dr. Hughes for coming to the fight and getting Blake Whorton and Cody Holt 100% before their fights. We really appreciate all of the support!
