LONE WOLF NEWS 2008

A lot has happened for Lone Wolf fighters since the last time we updated our site, so lets get started. Roy and Jenn Babcock both made their pro debuts. Roy "The Enigma" Babcock won his first pro fight via triangle choke in Round 3 of an absolute war in Oklahoma. Jenn Babcock debuted as a pro as a part of a tournament put on by Bodog fights. Though she was stopped in the first round it proved to be a good learning experience. In early Febuary the Babcock family moved their training to New Mexico and are currently training under Greg Jackson. On April 3rd Jenn won her first pro fight on the Fatal Femmes show in L.A. She was able to take down Tammie Schneider and pound her into submission at 1:04 of Round 1. Kyle Carver captured the ISCF Central Regional Title with a hard fought victory over Trevon Ewing in early Febuary. Ewing came out swinging and was very close to finishing the fight, but Carver stayed calm and was able to get Ewing down and submit him as Round 1 came to an end. Adam White came up short in his first fight against Ben Hummel. White filled in as a last minute replacement and fought above his weight class. Adam showed incredible heart and looked very good landing punches on Hummel standing up. Hummel was just too strong and took White down with ease and was able to finish White in the second round with a rear naked choke. Chris Milne made his debut at a Blue Corner Event in Kansas City. Milne seemed unrattled by the big stage, and was able to take the fight to the ground and end it with a rear naked choke in Round 1. At Mid-MO-MMA Fight Show 7 Tyler Mejia made his return to the cage against Frank Salsberry. Both fighters came out fighting and that made for a very entertaining figt. It was a back and forth match with both fighters landing punches on their feet and on the ground. As round 3 came to a close Mejia was able to lock up a triangle choke, but Salsberry was able to elevate Mejia and drop him with a huge slam. Mejia was able to weather the storm and transition into a fight ending armbar. Later in the main event of the evening Kyle Carver took on Jose Vega for the ISCF United States title. Both fighters looked confident before the fight. Carver struck first peppering Vega with jabs and leg kicks. Then, Vega rushed Carver forcing him to shoot. Vega was able to stuff the takedown and lock on a front choke and hand Carver his first loss. Carver will look to rebound from that fight at the upcoming World Tournament in May. Matt Gragg will also make the trip to Cedar Rapids to enter the tournament, making his debut at 185 lbs. MMA action will also make its return to St. Joseph at Zero Tolerance 7 at the American Legion on April 26th. Several Lone Wolf fighters will be on the card including: Paul Sanchez, Jeff Huff, Adam white, Matt Price, and Chris Milne LATEST NEWS FROM LONE WOLF

It's time to get caught up on Lone Wolf's fights from August and September. Jen "The Dilemma" Babcock won her last fight in dominating fashion over Tera Martin. Jen came out and landed a big overhand right that dropped Martin. Babcock jumped on top and was able to trap Martin's arm behind her head. Then she unleashed a flurry of punches that broke Martin's nose and ended the fight. Babcock strengthened her record to 5-2. On August 24, Matt Gragg took on Chris Goodwin for the 205 lbs. Mid MO and ISCF Missouri State Title. In the early moments of the fight Gragg proved to be the more skilled fighter. Gragg showed his superior boxing by slipping punches and landing combinations and kicks. Goodwin showed he had a very good chin and weathered the storm until Gragg took him down. Gragg locked on a tight side choke, but Goodwin made it through the round. Round 2 started with more of the same. Gragg landed more good punches and kicks, and went for another takedown. Goodwin was able to shift his weight and land in mount on top of Gragg. Gragg showed good heart surviving a flurry of punches, and almost pulled off a sweet knee-bar. Goodwin got Gragg's back and was able to finish the fight. It was obvious that Gragg was the more technical, trained fighter. He made one mistake and landed in a bad spot, but hopefully he will get another shot at Goodwin and his belts soon. Cody Holt and Brett Stewart made their debuts September 7 at the Clash of the Cage. Both fighters had tough back and forth matchups. Brett was beat with an armbar in Round 2, and Cody survived an early knockdown to win his fight by submission. Roy Babcock and Kyle Carver fought in Columbia on the 21st of September. After a takedown and a quick but devastating submission Carver beat Josh Phillips in just 59 seconds. This was a big win because Phillips is the 135 lbs Champion in Moberly. Babcock lost his fight with Will Burns in a questionable split decision 29-28, 29-28, 30-27. The first round was close with both men scoring points in the clinch and Roy winning the fight on the outside. In round 2 Babcock opened up his offense and dominated Burns for the entire round getting Burns' back at the end of the round but unable to finish. As Round 3 started it was obvious that Burns was very tired and not willing to trade with Babcock. Babcock circled Burns landing leg kicks and punches. Burns tried to clinch with Roy but couldn't get a grasp on the crafty Babcock. Burns was able to connect with a right hand that dropped Roy but was unable to control Babcock on the ground. Babcock looked fresh as he went for numerous submissions to finish the round. At the end of the fight Burns didn't act or look like the winner. He had noticable damage to his face while Babcock didn't even look like he had been in a fight. Unfortunatly the judges didn't see things the same way as Burns won the decision in his hometown. Lone Wolf has more fights scheduled for October and November including Zero Tolerence 6 which will feature an appearance by former UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin.

THE KING HAS A PRINCESS

LONE WOLF GOES 5-0 AT ZERO TOLERENCE 5

July 14 proved once again that Lone Wolf MMA is not only the best gym in St. Joe, but a growing force in the whole midwest. The night got started when Lone Wolf's Kyle Carver overcame first fight butterflies and won his debut in impressive fashion. Carver came out with a big slam and finished the fight with a rear naked choke at 1:02 into the first round. Next up for Lone Wolf was Blake "Shake N' Bake" Whorton vs Coil's Academy's Dustin Scott. After refusing to touch gloves with Whorton to start the fight, Scott was blasted with two very hard leg kicks. Whorton then tried to go for the kill with a head kick. Scott avoided most of the damage and dropped Whorton to the canvas with a right hand. Scott tried to finish the fight, but Whorton used his ground skills to avoid punishment and sweep Scott. Whorton was close to finishing the fight twice in Round 1, first with an armbar and then a tight Go-Go-Plata. Scott proved tough and fought to the bell. Whorton shot in for a takedown to start Round 2, Scott landed a good knee on Whorton but ended up on bottom. Whorton kept position for most of the round, and looked close to ending the fight with strong ground and pound and a very tight rear naked choke. Once again Scott wouldn't quit and made it out of the round. Round 3 started the same as Round 1, with Whorton landing a strong leg kick. Scott instantly closed the distance, clinching up with Whorton. Whorton was able to score another takedown, and use his position to ground and pound. Then Whorton stood up out of Scott's guard and backed up. As Scott started to get to his feet Whorton jumped back on top gaining a better position. Whorton stayed on top the rest of the round. Both men were obviously tired as the judges tallied their cards. Whorton won by Unanimous Decision (29-28 30-27 & 30-27). Matt Price was the next Lone Wolf fighter to enter the cage. Price started the fight with a bang landing a picture perfect Superman punch. The punch dropped his opponent, and Price looked to end the fight with a choke. The two fighters scrambled to their feet. Price once agin landed an awesome Superman punch forcing his opponent to give up, and allowing Lone Wolf to win their 3rd fight of the night in impressive fashion. Next up was the newest member of the Lone Wolf team Ray Cisneros. Ray and his opponent started off exchanging punches in a hurry. Both fighters landed some good shots on the other until Cisneros got a takedown and rained down some thunderous punches forcing the referee to call a halt to the fight at 0:32 into Round 1. The Main Event of the night featured Ben "Hands of Sin" Wagers vs Jeff Carsten. Both fighters had a strong fan base on hand and the crowd roared as both fighters entered the cage. The fight started with a bang as both fighters looked anxious to throw hands. Then, Wagers shot in and pushed Karsten against the fence. Karsten defended the takedown well as Wagers looked for a big slam. Wagers got the takedown and unleashed a brutal ground and pound forcing Karsten to give up his back. Wagers forced Karsten to tap out due to strikes, ending an awesome night of fights and a perfect night for Lone Wolf MMA.

WHORTON & GRAGG GO TO L.A.

Recently Jeremy Whorton and Matt Gragg were able to take a trip to Los Angeles, California to train with Jiu Jitsu legend and pioneer Eddie Bravo. They were able to roll and spar with some very good talent, including Joe Rogan. They were also lucky enough to meet and train with the world famous Reggie Warren Jr. Jeremy Whorton would like to thank everybody who had a hand in the experience and would like to plan a trip including even more Lone Wolf MMA members.

THE PACK GOES 7-1 AT ZERO TOLERANCE IV

March 24, 2007 proved to be a great night for Lone Wolf Martial Arts. Ben "Hands of Sin" Wagers got the crowd started as he dominated his opponent. Wagers landed some hard right hands and slammed his opponent early. He then secured a dominate position and punched his way to a TKO victory. The next Lone Wolf fighter to enter the cage was Blake "Shake N' Bake" Whorton. After throwing some good kicks to start the fight, Whorton won his debut with a hard right hand that dropped Chris Kelly, and earned Whorton his first victory in just 23 seconds. Jeff "The Rubberband Man" Huff had to go the distance to gain his second victory in the cage. Huff looked good on his feet, putting together punches, kicks, and knees very well to establish himself as the superior stand-up fighter. He was also able to avoid damage when his opponent took him down. After three rounds of action, Jeff Huff got the nod from all three judges to get the win. Brent Ault gained his first victory after taking down his opponent early and securing a rear naked choke. Dave Shaffer got back to his winning ways in an exciting fight. Shaffer traded punches before the fight went to the ground. "Double Shot" made his opponent pay for an armbar attempt with multiple knees to the ribs. Shaffer escaped and got a TKO victory with some vicious hammer fists. Then it was time for the women to enter the cage. Jen "The Dilema" Babcock won a very exciting fight. The first round was full of action as Babcock and her opponent traded punches on there feet, and position on the ground. Babcock looked close to ending the fight before the bell rang. The crowd was really into this fight at the start of Round 2. Babcock looked fresh and scored a takedown. After trading position on the mat, "The Dilema" locked in a tight choke forcing her opponent to tapout. The crowd absolutely exploded as Jen was announced the winner. Now it was time for the main events. Undefeated Jeremy "Lone Wolf" squared off against Jason Colobong for the Zero Tolerance Heavyweight Title. These two men looked like the veterans they are. They gave each other respect as neither man seemed to want to push the action. The two fighters circled each other swapping leg kicks until Whorton just missed with a punch that would of definitely hurt Colobong. Colobong escaped the exchange, smiled and nodded as to tell Whorton he was close. Then both fighters went to throw punches, and Whorton got caught off balance and went down. Colobong capitalized and landed some hard punches to Whorton and ended the fight. Jeremy would like to congratulate Jason on his win and thank him for not only a good fight, but for being very respectful as well. In the final fight of the night, Roy "The Answer" Babcock took on Rodney Borden. Both men started fast trading punches. They clinched and Babcock looked close to finishing the fight with a guillotine choke. Borden escaped and started to ground and pound. Babcock reversed position as round 1 came to an end. Round 2 was hard to judge as the fight once again went to the ground. Borden used a very good ground and pound game, while Babcock used his submission skills. Both fighters were close to finishing the fight, but neither could close the book. The crowd was roaring after the fast paced round came to a close. As round 3 started both fighters looked exhausted. Babcock used his striking ability and punished Borden with leg kicks, and numerous spinning backfists. Borden once again took Babcock down. The pace slowed until Babcock got back up to his feet. Babcock used what energy he had left to continue his striking until the bell sounded. As the judges added up the scores, the crowd was going wild because they had just witnessed one of the best fights they will ever see. Babcock edged out Borden for a split decision victory and winning the Zero Tolerance Welterweight Title.

Two knees on the ground connected with Shaffer's head. The referee, Steve Schneider, did not deduct points or give Shaffer any recovery time. The rule-breaking continued when Doss threw numerous heel hooks to the spine, punches to the back of the head, and fingers to the eyes. A total of one point was deducted for the numerous fouls. It should also should be noted that Doss trains with none other then Steve Schneider's Caveman's Crew. Shaffer lost by tapout in the third round.
